PRACTICE SCHEDULE:

Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday:
6:00- 7:00 PM Novice
6:30- 8:15 PM Senior, Junior, Prep, Cadet

*AGE GROUPS:
Prep – 11 & 12
Cadet – 9 & 10
Novice – 7 & 8
Flipper – 6 & under
Junior – 13 & 14
Senior – 15 & over

*Age Group determined by age as of May 1, 2009.

SUMMER SWIM TEAM DUES:
            1st child….……. $320.00
            2nd child………. $270.00 same family
            3rd child ………. $110.00 same family
            High School……........$110.00(practicing with HS team)

Each swimmer must have a current YMCA membership throughout the season and dues paid in full by 12/1/2009.

If anyone has a problem with payment, we ask that you contact the Aquatic Director, Jen Prohaska at ext 122 to discuss your situation.

Upcoming Meets

We will soon be passing around sign up sheets for consessions and deck workers for upcoming dual meets and the invitational. We are asking that you give as much time, food and drink items, and effort as possible to make our meets a success. Please contact SOS President Geoffrey Smith to volunteer or if you have any questions.

Please remember to start working on your Ads for the Invitational heat sheet. Pick up the "Ad request forms" by the bulletin board.

Our Invitational has been posted, so all swimmers can start to pick your events for the meet...follow the deadlines for sign ups!!

Fundraising

SOS President Geoffrey Smith is allways looking for new fundraining ideas, and will be looking to hold a special 'Fundraising Ideas Meeting" sometime in late September/early October. Please contact him with any ideas you may have.

New GYST Parents

Welcome to the team! Learning the ins-and-outs of competitive swimming can, at first, be a little confusing. If you have a question about ANYTHING, don't be afraid to ask a coach or another swim team parent. To familiarize yourself with some common terms you might hear, please consult the GLOSSARY.

Don't Forget...

Please keep checking the GYST bulletin board… there are several league invitationals posted (PLEASE make sure that you are aware of the meet entry deadlines). Also parents, there are sign up sheets to help at our home meets and invitational. We need EVERYONE to help out in order to allow meets to run smoothly!

Don’t forget to keep saving those Yoplait lids! Every little bit helps!

Don’t forget to turn in your “GYST Spotlight” papers to the coaches!

We are looking for a few parent volunteers.
Anyone that may be interested in any of the jobs listed below,
please let Coach Susie or Coach Kim know.

Keep the record boards updated following each swim meet (including a “little catch up” from past seasons). This would be a great job for a parent (or two)that spends time in the stands each evening waiting for their kids to finish practice.

Anyone that is computer savvy and would be interested in learning the Meet HyTek program and run the computer at our swim meets, let us know.

Remember there are now Sunday practices (Fall Season Only) for all swimmers over the age of 8, from 4:30 to 6:30. Also, don’t forget to be at practice on time for stretches!!!

Other News and Information

The Stingrays have a parent organization called Support Our Stingrays. (S.O.S.)  Parents help in a variety of ways, mainly fundraising for equipment and officiating of home meets.  Parents provide positive support for their children. Please try to attend meetings. Bylaws (pdf format).

US Swimming
GYST are a member of the Allegheny Mountain Swim Association, the local association of US Swimming. We encourage our swimmers to consider AMS membership. It gives additional opportunities to compete in different events and against different swimmers. Membership is $55.00 per year and applications will be available on the GYST bulletin board. Please Note: This is not a YMCA program.

A message from the Y staff…

Dear Parents of Swim Team members,

We would like to remind parents to please be sure your child brings their YMCA membership cards to all Swim Team practices and meets. Checking in at the Welcome Center is essential to keeping accurate usage reports as well as ensuring safety and member security. If you need to have a replacement card made, please inform someone at the Welcome Center.
